4:30 pm

In Attendance:  Maggi-Smith Dalton, Clare Ritchie, Wendy Roizen, Lt. Conrad Prosniewski, Shawn Newton, Jerrie Hildebrand, Lucy Corchado, Tom Watkins

Introduction and Hate Crimes

Group members introduced themselves.  Shawn wanted to know if there have been any recent hate crimes reported in the City.  Lt. Prosniewski, who is the Hate Crimes office for the Salem Police Dept., reported that there has been no recent hate crime activity in Salem.  Maggi mentioned that the committee should have links on their webpage to local social service agencies.  It was also discussed that should any future hate crime happen in Salem, the No Place for Hate Committee should write a formal response and send it to the appropriate people, including the press.

Wiccan Panel Discussion Event
With the month of February quickly approaching, the group will look to hold this event in either the month of March or April.  Jerrie will talk to Margot Adler to discuss her availability during these months.  The group still needs to find a way to fund Margot’s transportation costs.  Tom will check to see if the group can seek donations at the door to help fund this effort.  Tom and Jerrie will be in touch regarding a date for the event and funding options for Margot’s transportation.

Other Business
Wendy announced that this year’s Interfaith Seder will be held on April 1st at the Jewish Community Center in Marblehead.  Also, in May, there will be a “Law & Education Day” program entitled “Cyber Bullying” at the Kernwood Country Club.

Spreading the Word
Clare suggested the group needs to do more to become better recognized in the City.  Jerrie suggested creating a banner to be hung on either Washington or Essex St.  Tom will email Jerrie the banner specifications and policy the City has.  It would also help to advertise our group in the Salem News and Gazette.

Meeting adjourned at 5:50 pm.
